Style advice for disabled women tends to arrive in one of two flavours: patronising, or absent. This is neither. These are ten outfits that work in practice, with the reason each one works written down, because the reason is the transferable part.

Adapt everything to your own body and your own day. Nothing here is a rule.

For a day in a chair#

1. Wide-leg trousers, a fine-knit tunic, a long cardigan. The tunic does not need tucking, so there is no waistband digging in when seated. The cardigan adds a vertical line, which is what gives the outfit shape without structure.

2. A shirt dress with a belt you never tie. A shirt dress in a crisp cotton reads as tailored, and it opens the whole way down, which makes it one of the easiest things to get on. Swap the fabric belt for a stretch one and leave it at the right length.

3. Jersey jumpsuit, structured jacket, flat boots. One garment, one decision, and the jacket does the work of making it look considered rather than comfortable.

For limited reach or grip#

4. A wrap top over a straight-leg trouser. Wrap tops adjust across the chest rather than being taken in, so they fit a wider range of bodies without a tailor.

5. A column dress with a single back zip and a loop pull. A dress with no waist seam and no fastening you have to see is the fastest outfit there is. Add a ribbon to the zip pull and it becomes a one-finger garment.

6. Layers you never have to undo. A fine merino vest under a loose overshirt, over a t-shirt. Nothing needs unfastening to be comfortable, so nothing needs unfastening in a bathroom either.

For pain or fatigue days#

7. One piece, two accessories, zero decisions. A dress in a colour you like, a scarf, and earrings. On a bad day, the outfit is one garment, the accessories are what make it look chosen.

8. Soft wide-leg trousers with a drawstring waist. The drawstring is the point: a fixed elastic band that is comfortable at nine in the morning is unbearable by three.

9. The duplicate outfit. Two identical comfortable tops, two identical trousers. Own it deliberately. It removes a decision, and on a hard day a removed decision is worth more than a novel one.

For when you want to be looked at#

10. Anything with a strong shoulder and a strong colour. A structured blazer, a saturated red, a bold print, worn over the softest thing you own. The contrast between the armour on the outside and the comfort underneath is the entire trick.

The three rules underneath all ten#

  • Choose closures before you choose silhouettes. The garment you can put on is the garment you will wear. Everything else is theory.
  • Buy the fabric, not the look. Stretch that recovers, mid-weights that do not bag, natural fibres that breathe. A beautiful outfit you cannot tolerate is not an outfit.
  • Dress for the body you have today. Not the one in last year's photographs, and not the one a brand assumes you have. Today's body is the only one that has to get dressed.

Style That Works for You#

Getting dressed should be about expressing yourself, not working around a list of limitations. Whether your day calls for soft fabrics, easy closures, a little extra support, or a bold outfit that makes you feel incredible, your style deserves to work with you.

The best outfit is the one that feels good on your body, fits your day, and makes you feel like yourself. Take what works from these ideas, adapt what doesn't, and remember: comfort and style were never meant to be opposites.

Because every woman deserves to feel beautiful, confident, and completely herself — in her own way.

Her Way to Style celebrates fashion for every woman, with a commitment to inclusive representation, personal expression, and style that makes room for everyone.
